Bentonite is a clay composed primarily of smectite minerals, usually montmorillonite. It is extracted by open- pit mining. The rock therefore is extracted in the upper layer by drilling and excavating. The extracted rock is transported by truck from the mine to the processing plant. Beneficiation steps are crushing, drying and screening.
